There is an old bible verse, give a person a fish and you feed them for a day, but teach a person to fish and they will eat for a lifetime. This can also be an analogy for substituting gardening for the younger generation: give a child fresh garden vegetables will feed them for a day, but teach children how to garden will allow them to eat for a lifetime.
